NGO CSW/NY VAW

The NGO Committee on the Status of Women, NY is a committee of the Conference of NGOs (CONGO) in consultative relationship with the United Nations (UN).

This site aims to educate, inspire and mobilize UN staff, government diplomats, NGOs and activists to:

  • Create a global culture of zero tolerance of abuse and violence against
    women of all ages.
  • Increase prevention and implement impunity.
  • Help implement the frameworks provided by the UNUDHR and human rights
treaty bodies such as CEDAW, as well as any other global obligations for
governments, such as the Beijing Platform for Action and subsequent
    agreed conclusions.
  • Follow-up on the recommendations of the UN Secretary-General's Study on
    Violence against Women.
  • Empower, inform and facilitate the participation of both men and women
    in preventing abuse and violence.
  • Educate and advocate societal leadership to generate, and to fund and
implement policies and programs to facilitate these goals

Working through our NGO contacts and networks, our ultimate goal is to involve everyone - men, women and children worldwide, to actively deal with abuse and violence, human rights and development issues, using educational spaces of all sorts and including civil society organizations, in particular non-governmental organizations (NGOs), grassroots groups, faith-based organizations, the media and various networks.
